It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on Saturday, March 28, 2015.
Fern died peacefully with family by her side, and in the thoughts of many that loved her dearly. She truly cherished every minute that she shared with all of us on this earth!
She is survived by her loving husband Maynard Carl Olson; son Gregory Carl Olson and grandchildren Maggie, Jake, and Addy; son Chad Michael (Victoria) Olson and grandchildren Nicole, Maddie, Sam, and great-grandchild Morrison; step-children Kathy Oquin and grandchildren Steve and Malissa, Richard Olson and grandchildren Tania and Jeromy, Vicky (Rod) Williams and grandchildren William and Waylon, as well as many great-grandchildren!
She is also survived by her sisters and brother; Sherry Bolte, Jodi Ben David, Vicky Aguilar Clark, Becky Clark, Terry Clark, and Joe Clark, as well as many nephews and nieces!
Fern was born in Owensboro, Kentucky and moved to Minnesota where she met and married her wonderful husband of 50 years on June 20th, 1964.
Maynard and Fern built their first house in Apple Valley, Minnesota during the summer of 1965. They moved several times through the years, but have always made Apple Valley their home. Fern worked for many years at Westview and Greanleaf elementary schools until she became a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines in the summer of 1988. She retired from Northwest/Delta Airlines in 2005.
Fern was a lung transplant recipient and received her new lease on life February 20, 2007. We thank her donor family, as well as the fine doctors and nurses that have cared for her over the years. You afforded her the opportunity to spend more time with those she cared so much about, and gave her the ability to travel and do more of the things she loved! Fern was a speaker, as well as a dedicated volunteer and ambassador for several organ donor foundations. In lieu of flowers and memorials, donations will be presented to several of the organizations that she was involved with. Checks can be written out to either Chad or Maynard Olson, as we will be presenting a donation in Fern’s honor.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 24, 2015 at the Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley, MN 55124. Guests are welcome to arrive as early as 10 a.m.
