Thomas “Tom” Nicholas Thelen

age 68 of Apple Valley, passed away suddenly Jan. 18, 2024 at his home.  Tom was born Sept. 4, 1955 in St. Cloud to Hubert & Mary Thelen.  He graduated from Cathedral HS in 1973.  Following graduation, Tom traveled the country and lived in San Francisco, Spicer, and Mpls.  He married the love of his life Jill Johnsen on Aug. 2, 1986 and had two wonderful children, Andrea and Alex.   Tom had a lifelong career as a Construction Supervisor and took great pride in his work. Over his career he spent time at Mossberg Construction, Chuck Mears Companies, Anderson Builders and ultimately retired from Bainey Group in 2021.  He enjoyed sharing his craft with many friends.  Tom had a passion for all things in life, especially his family and friends. To know Tom was to love Tom and he was so proud of his wife, kids, precious grandkids, and many good friends.  He loved the outdoors and being on or in the water. He owned land on the GunFlint Trail and enjoyed camping in the BWCA and North Shore area. His many interests included live music, golf, and reading. He loved people and his knack for storytelling connected him with everyone he met. His infectious laugh and kind heart will be missed.  Tom is survived by his wife Jill; children, Andrea (Keven) Riley and Alex (Emma) Thelen; grandchildren: Liam, Hazel and Kendall; his dog, Jaxsen; siblings: JoAnn Morrissey, Pat (Bob) Thielman, Rick (Sue) Thelen, Jim Thelen, MaryKay (Mike) Pfannenstein;  nieces, nephews, close family and many good friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hub &  Mary; brother-in-law, Paul Morrissey; mother & father-in-law, Mary & Bill Johnsen and beloved dog, Sydney.  Celebration of life, 11 AM, Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley.   Visitation Fri. 4:00 – 7:00 PM and one hour prior to service.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area: bwca.com
