Robert “Bob” J. Haugen

Age 85 of Burnsville, born August 3, 1937 in Minneapolis to Anders and Ethel (Anderson) Haugen, passed away peacefully February 18th, 2023.  Bob served in the U.S. Navy during Korea.  He then joined the Minneapolis Fire Department, working alongside his brother, Richard “Dick” Haugen. Bob retired in 2000 as a Captain after 37 years. He married Clare Block on October 18th , 1969, after being set up on a blind date on New Year’s Eve 1968. They settled in Burnsville in 1971 where Bob built most of their house himself. Bob and Clare then had 3 daughters: M’Lyse, Crisha, and Kiersta.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, boating, golfing, bowling, woodworking, World War II history, playing cribbage, and spending time with his family. He was also a Master Mason and was very active in the Scottish Rite and various Shrine Clubs in his younger years. Bob was quiet but had a great sense of humor and was always quick with a funny look or joke. He taught his daughters many things, among them how to laugh and enjoy life, and how to take care of themselves.

Bob’s greatest joys were “his 4 girls”, then later in life that expanded to include his grandchildren Katalina and Caden.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Andy and Ethel, sister Joanne who died in infancy, and son-in-law Gavin Pugh.  Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Clare Haugen; daughters: M’Lyse Haugen, Crisha Pugh, and Kiersta Haugen; grandchildren, Katalina and Caden Pugh; brothers, Earl (Jeannie) Haugen and Richard (Lori) Haugen; nieces Lisa Stoy, Heidi Haugen, and Susan Richter, nephews Robert (Bob) Haugen and Julius (Jule) Block; and countless extended family and friends. Funeral service, 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2023, with visitation one hour before at Henry W Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Ave, Apple Valley.  Bob will be laid to rest at
Mound Cemetery in Le Sueur, MN at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Minnesota Firefighters Museum.
