Phyllis Normand (Beckendorf) Age 72, of Burnsville, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2015 after a long fought battle with cancer. Phyllis was born on Oct. 22, 1942, in rural Ceylon, Minnesota, to Luella and Edwin Beckendorf. She was baptized on November 8, 1942 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon, MN. Phyllis attended parochial school and was confirmed on March 25, 1956 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, MN.

After graduating from Ceylon High School in 1960, Phyllis made her home in Minneapolis where she was employed as a secretary. On November 24, 1973, Phyllis married Paul Normand and they then moved to Hollywood, Florida.

While living in Florida, Phyllis and Paul were blessed with their son, Jonathan. Upon Paul’s death in 1985, Phyllis returned to Minnesota and settled in Burnsville with Jonathan.

Phyllis was a cancer survivor for nine years before her cancer diagnosis in March of 2014. She fought hard, never gave up, and never complained, putting her trust in God to see her through the battle. Phyllis always said, “God is good”. Her church and most of all her faith were very important to her, which was evident even in her health care directive stating: “Life is God given, God is in charge”.

Phyllis was a talented seamstress and enjoyed her flowers and plants. Most of all she was a loving, caring, and awesome Mother.

A special thank you to Pastor Duane, Pastor Diane, and parish nurses, Dr. Gall and staff, Trinity Care staff, Fairview Hospice, and especially her friends for their continued care and support.

Survived by son, Jonathan; siblings and (in-laws): Val (Clay) Wagner, Carl (Chery), (Sandy), Jim (Sally), Arn (Judy), Dave (Eileen), Tom (Rita), Kathy (Don) Ellerton, John (Shirley); close neighbor, friend, and, caretaker, Phyllis Miller, and numerous relatives and friends ? especially at SOTV Church. Preceded in death by husband, Paul; parents, Luella and Edwin; and brother, Bill. Celebration of Life Service 11 a.m., Friday, August 21 with visitation 1 hour prior to service at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd., Apple Valley. Internment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Trinity Care Center and SOTV Church.
