I don't know the family or this young man, but I want them to know we're thinking about them and grieving with them. Life is so difficult to understand sometimes, but it's quite apparent Patrick has an incredibly loving family. I have to believe there's a wonderful kid out there smiling down upon them with great pride. God bless all of you.;

We want to extend our sympathy to Patrick's family. We are from SD and just learned about Patrick's passing. Our son Adam went into sudden cardiac arrest and passed away and we learned after his death - he had an undiagnosed heart condition called HCM. We didn't see any signs or symptoms either. Please know we are thinking of you and will pray for you always. Feel free to reach out to us anytime you need a shoulder! Troy and Ann Thompson;

I did not know this family personally. I went to Fairmont High School (78') and graduated with a Tammy Schoonover. She had a younger brother Greg. I am sure that there is some relationship that Patrick had with them. It certainly was a sad incident that occurred. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Schoonover families and friends that played a role in Patrick's life. God bless you all.;

Patrick was known as a young hockey player to so many. While he was already playing hockey, I will remember him as a sweet little boy in my first grade classroom. He was a delightful combination of joy, enthusiasm, and spunk. He always wore a smile, was well liked by his classmates, and was respectful to me. Even at that young age, Patrick was a student who was willing to put in the extra effort, whether it was in the classroom or on the playground. And as he grew through the grades, Patrick always had a smile for me when we passed in the hallways. There will always be a special place in my heart for Patrick and the entire Schoonover family.;

We are a hockey family as well and can't even imagine what you are going through. My boys had their Squirt faceoff last weekend and inbetween each game we had a moment of silence for Patrick and his family. It was a very emotional day for all of us. The kids had "Play for Patrick" all over - blade of their sticks, arms and wore their jerseys to school on Monday. They will be doing that again tomorrow...and we will all be thinking of you and praying for your family. Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family.;

Best regards, very sorry for your loss. Deepest sympathy to Schoonover family.. I personally didn't know the family or Patrick, but as a youth hockey player myself, I know how tough it is, to lose a battle. This is one of those battles. Mike -I heard about your family's loss on the news and I was just so shocked and saddened. It's been a lot of years since we were kids growing up together in Shoreview but I remember that hockey was always a "big deal" for your family, even then. This is just such a tragic loss. I won't be able to be at the service on Friday but I will be sending you, Gayle, your kids & Patrick's grandparents my thoughts and prayers, on behalf of our entire family.;

So sorry for your loss, and my heart hurts for the family. I pray Gods peace, comfort and strength for you all. My only hope is that this brings awareness to our youth sports physicals. My son also had a a heart defect that was diagnosed by and EKG just last month. Since the diagnoses he has had surgery and was back out on the ice that same weekend! I pray for you all daily for strength and peace! I'm so so sorry??;

I don't know the family or Patrick either, but I want them to know my heart is hurting with them. My husband collapsed suddenly and died from bicuspid aortic valve also 6 months ago. I was married 20 years with 2 children, ages 17 and 19. He was 54. We had no idea either that he had this heart condition. I'm so sad for the Schoonover family. Apparently, 2 percent of the population has this. My prayers of strength and healing for the family and for my family. We are all hurting. I'm so very sorry.;

Mike, Gayle, Abby, Anna and Matthew...When I saw this poem today I felt it must have been written for the Schoonover Family. The "Farewell" poem went like this "No farewell words were spoken...no time to say goodbye...you were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why." I know if Patrick were here today we would tell him what a great son, brother, friend or neighbor he was but we should take comfort in knowing that he is listening to us now. Our hearts go out to your family during this time of sorrow and reflection. Let's remember to celebrate the life of Patrick and the remember the joy he brought to others. Remembering number "96".
