Gisselquist, Orloue N.

age 91, of Minneapolis on March 16, 2013. Survived by devoted wife of 56 years, Marilyn (Borgeson) Gisselquist of Minneapolis; four children: David (Carol), Hershey, PA; Peter, Minneapolis; Gregory (Barbara Schultz), Vadnais Heights; and Mary Sage (Brian Mundt), Minneapolis; sisters, Grace (Oliver Johnson), Waverly, Iowa; and Marilyn Quanbeck, McVille, ND. Preceded in death by first wife, Elizabeth (Bette) Brude, brothers, Clement Algernon and John Irving, and son, Richard Irving. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Gisselquist was born July 12, 1921 in Elmore, MN to Rev. John O. Gisselquist and Ida (Engelstad) Gisselquist. He spent his early years in Centerville, SD. The family moved to Minneapolis in 1937. He attended Minnehaha Academy, Augsburg College and received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Gisselquist spent more than three decades on the faculty of Augsburg College. Over the years, he also held positions on various church and community boards.

He was thankful to the churches of which he was a member during his life for their ministry of Word and Sacraments that nourished and sustained him in the community of faith. The family gives its thanks for the care given to Orloue by the staff of Lyngblomsten Care Center.

Memorials to the Gisselquist Music Scholarship Fund at Augsburg College or St. Peder’s Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.

Memorial service will be held at St. Peder’s Lutheran Church, 4600 E. 42nd St., Minneapolis, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Visitation at 2 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the church and at a lunch held immediately following the service at Becketwood, 4300 West River Parkway, Minneapolis. Private family interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
