Laurel Ann Harris,

fondly known as Laurie, passed away at the age of 87 on April 17, 2024, in Fridley, Minnesota. She was born on January 26, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to George and Mabel Halvorson.

Laurie’s journey through life was marked by a dedication to learning and a commitment to her family. She graduated from Minneapolis South High School in 1955 and was esteemed as the Honored Queen of Jobs Daughters and was a member of the Eastern Star. Her academic pursuits led her to the University of Minnesota, where she spent two years before embarking on a career in cytotechnology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Her passion and proficiency in this field were evident throughout her tenure at Lufkin Medical Laboratories, which later became part of Smith Kline, working alongside Dr. John Popowich for 15 years.

On January 27, 1962, Laurie married Richard Harold Harris at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their union was not only one of love and companionship but also of shared responsibilities, as Laurie contributed her skills to managing the family business for many years.

Beyond her professional achievements, Laurie cherished her time with family and friends. She and Dick created lasting memories at “the lake” on Cedar Lake in Minnesota, and enjoyed winters in Naples, Florida, surrounded by dear friends who became an extended family.

Laurie will forever be remembered and dearly missed by her husband of 62 years, Richard; daughters, Paula (Steve) Kays and Ann (Don) Leaf and her cherished grandchildren: Leah, Grace, Lucy, and Mikey. Her legacy of love, dedication, and warmth will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 26, 2024, with a visitation one hour before at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, 6180 Hwy 65 NE in Fridley.  Laurie will be laid to rest next to her parents at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
