Kristine Bryan Nielsen

Our beloved Kris was born on July 19, 1962 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Daniel and Marilyn Bryan. Kris particularly adored her dad who preceded her in death.

Kris passed away at the age of 57 on July 9, 2020. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Craig; daughter, Madeleine; mother, Marilyn; sister, Jenny (Josh) Mattson; sister-in-law, Terri (Tom) Berry; nephews: Mark Berry, Noah and Owen Mattson; nieces: Carolyn Testa, Diana Gilbert, and Noelle Berry and uncle and aunt, John and Patsy Bode.

Kris attended the University of Minnesota ultimately earning a PhD in Educational Policy and Administration. She held several positions in education throughout her career, beginning as an English teacher in both the Lake Forest, IL and Northfield, MN school districts, becoming an assistant principal at both Northfield and later at Edina High School, then as an Executive Director at the Minnesota Administrators Leadership Forum, and finally excelling as a Professional Development Consultant with the Leadership and Learning Center based in Englewood, CO.

Kris lived with her family in Minneapolis but loved to travel with family and friends, primarily visiting European Countries. Her all-time favorite was Paris, which she enjoyed on several occasions. Kris was also an avid horsewoman who enjoyed countless hours astride her “second child”, Alyxczar.

Kris is best remembered as a loving mother to Maddie, devoted wife to Craig, great cook, coordinator, and enthusiastic participant in gatherings of family and friends, and last but certainly not least as a kind, caring, and forever friend to many.

“She’s in the sun, the wind, the rain,
she’s the air you breathe with every breath you take.
She sings a song of hope and cheer, there’s no more pain, no more fear.
You’ll see her in the clouds above, hear her whisper words of love,
You’ll be together before long, until then listen for her song.”
~Christy Ann Martine

A private memorial service will be held along with a celebration of Kris’ life at a later date.

Memorials preferred to the Union Gospel Mission in St. Paul or the Washburn High School, Washburn Arts Council (WAC).
