Kenneth ( Ken ) passed away under Doctor’s Care at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville around Midnight Thursday.
Ken was born in Slayton, Minnesota on January 24, 1925 to Gust and Elvida Carlson. He was raised by his parents and Uncle Herman Berlin. During his childhood he lived many places throughout Minnesota and once attended Phillips Junior High School on Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis.
On July 27, 1955 Ken was united in Marriage to Caroline M. Asp at Goodridge, Minnesota. They celebrated 50 years of Marriage in July 2005. Together, they raised three Children:Angeline, Loretta, & Kevin. In their early years, they lived and Farmed in Goodwin, South Dakota, working 283 Acres of land and had twenty five head of Holstein Milk Cows.
Dad later became a Business Man, owning a Dry Cleaners in Canby Minnesota. Later transitioning to a Steam Boiler Operating Engineer for Jennie – O – Turkey in Willmar. He progressed through the ranks and acquired a Minnesota State Chief Boiler Operator License with a Unlimited Horsepower rating and worked the final years of that position for Mid America Dairymen, and moving his Family from Canby to Farmington in 1974. During the years at Mid Am, Dad also managed the Tom Thumb Laundromat in Farmington and remained in that position until The laundry closed it’s doors in 2001, working there for 27 years.
After Mid Am was sold in 1985, he began working many places such as Green Giant, Iowa Pork, Marshall Lines, Con Agra, Reese Enterprises, Ryt Way Packaging, Pilgrim Cleaners, as well as many other jobs. He loved working and helping people fix things of all kinds, Laundry Equipment and anything else someone would ask of him. He was a kind man and willing to help, even if it would be a Stranger in the middle of the night.
Ken worked full time and sometimes, three jobs at once. He retired at age 77 from Park n Fly at the MSP International Airport. The job he loved the most, “helping people”.
Ken is Survived by his Wife of 56 years, Caroline, One Daughter, Loretta (Norm)Storbakken of Heath Texas, and a Son, Kevin (Chris) Carlson of Lakeville, and Grandchildren: Daniel (Corinne) Haack, Sheila (Jay) Peterson, Stephanie (Bill) Balke, Jason Haack, Dustin (Nicole) Artwohl, Nick Storbakken.
He also, has 6 Great Grandchildren as well.
Dad is preceded in death by his Parents, one Daughter, Angeline ( Carlson ) Haack and brother, Russell Carlson.
He regularly attended Celebration Church in Lakeville. Dad had a Born Again and Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ and is now in the Precious Arms of the Lord.
Visitation is 4-6 PM, Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley. There will also be a visitation from Noon to 1pm at the church Monday.
Funeral service, 1 PM, Monday, March 28, 2011 at Celebration Church, 16655 Kenyon Avenue, Lakeville with burial to follow at Corinthian Cemetery, Farmington.
