Grace Arlene (Spoelma) Vandal,
Age 79 of Apple Valley, MN, passed away on Friday, December 10th. Born December 28, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. Married Andre Vandal on June 20, 1964 in Minneapolis, MN.
She was a caring, loving and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother. She earned her Associate of Arts degree at Dakota Technical College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1982. Grace was a generous caretaker who worked in nursing homes while also lovingly caring for ailing family members. Before earning her LPN, Grace was a waitress at The Ole Piper Inn for nearly a decade, working evenings and most weekends while raising her young family.
She liked to read and cross-stitch. She was a master of crossword puzzles and particularly enjoyed Sudoku. She was an excellent dancer and bowler, often winning league awards. She treasured her time with extended family and went out of her way to visit with them whenever possible. She enjoyed talking to friends and family about daily life. She loved being a grandmother. In retirement, she enjoyed driving and delivering RV’s while listening to music. She spent considerable time traveling to nearly every state in the U.S. and loved to stop in small towns while on the road. Her favorite stop was in Orange City, Iowa for the annual Tulip Festival. The daughter of an immigrant from Holland, Grace was especially proud of her Dutch heritage.
Preceded in death by parents Sam and Martha Spoelma, brother Richie, sister Mary and brother Arthur. Survived by husband Andre, sons Bruce Vandal (Christine Nelson), Scott Vandal and Jason Vandal (Kari IntVeld); 3 grandchildren Benjamin, Zoe and Ella Vandal.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday December 28, 2021 at Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 East County Road 42, Burnsville, MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
