George Edward Horvat, 83, of Apple Valley, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 14, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio to Joseph P. and Mary E. (nee Humenick) Horvat. After serving 4 years in the United States Navy during the Korean War, George graduated in 1956 from Youngstown College, where he met his future wife, Lenore (nee Nelson). Together, they raised 3 daughters in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, California, Illinois, and Minnesota. George’s career spanned many years in Distribution Center Management with Werner Ladder Co., Masonite Corp., and General Mills, Inc. Later, he enjoyed working with the City of Apple Valley. George was well known for his lifelong fishing adventures in numerous lakes, rivers, and streams throughout the United States and Canada. In addition to his passion for fishing and hunting, he enjoyed vacationing often in the Caribbean Islands with extended family and friends. The joy of his life was being a “big kid” with his grandchildren. George is survived by Lenore, his wife of 57 years, daughters Diane (Ken) Nyquist, Susan (Tony) Schiller, and Cyndi (Kevin) Lorang, grandchildren David, Amber, and Kenny, sister Eleanor Kalasky, brother-in-law Bob (Pat) Nelson, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and grand-dog Monroe. Visitation is scheduled for 4-7 PM Monday, September 30 at the Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley (952) 432-2331, and 1 hour prior to an 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, October 1 at the Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 East County Road 42, Burnsville. Interment with honors will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Alzheimer’s Research. https://www.alzheimersinfo.org/
