Gary was my Lieutenant at Richfield Fire. He was the easiest and most relaxed man to ever work with. He always had higher aspirations than fighting fires and that seemed to be flying and travel. Great man, always enjoyed being around him. At any RFD get together, the question has always been "Anyone heard from Kottke". He will be missed.;

What a special treat to have known and worked with this bigger than life man over the past 45 years. We've laughed together, argued with each other, bent a few rules together and shared some of the best stories and flying experiences imaginable. It's hard to believe our good friend has gone West. RIP my friend, we'll all miss you...;

Gary and I were in the same new hire class at Mesaba. I still remember our first flight together. As we lined up for takeoff at Detroit Gary says "Just think Kevin, 3 weeks ago we didn't even know what a F-27 was, now we're taking off with 48 passengers!" Solid pilot, fantastic person.;

I worked with Gary for many years until his retirement as a Flight Dispatcher at Mesaba Airlines. He was always regarded by so many as one of the finest pilots that ever flew in the 60+ year history of the airline. He was truly one of the best and I respected his skill and his professionalism as an aviator. He always had a smile on his face and was truly as class act. My blessings and prayers to his entire family. Blue skies and tailwinds Gary. God Bless you friend. Mark Copeland Mesaba Airlines - Flight Dispatch
