Evelyn Maryan Sand

Of St. Louis Park, just shy of 96 years, born January 28, 1926 in Minneapolis to Elizabeth (immigrant from Germany) and Erick Olson (immigrant from Sweden), passed away comfortably on January 2, 2022,

She attended Roosevelt High School.  As a member of the Department of Horticulture, University of Minnesota, Evelyn supported Dr. Leon C. Snyder as the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum was being developed.  She eventually became a staff member of the Anderson Horticultural Library until retirement. Evelyn then continued at the Arboretum as a volunteer for the Anderson Library. Evelyn enjoyed being an active, lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in So. Minneapolis.  She also enjoyed gardening of flowers and herbs, becoming an officer of the Twin Cities Herb Society.   Evelyn was an avid fisherwoman.  Her record catch was an 11 pound Walleye, which she had mounted.   She was very creative, winning multiple awards for flower arranging.  Evelyn loved to cook, especially her favorite herb recipes.

Evelyn will be dearly missed by her husband of 71 years, Harold “Bud” or “Red”, sister-in-law, Betty J. Sand, several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews plus wonderful friends.

A special thank you to Park Nicollet Hospice and the staff at The Glenn-Minnetonka for the excellent care of Evelyn.

Memorials may be sent to: Anderson Horticultural Library at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum or Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Funeral service, 1:00 PM, Friday, January 7, 2022 with a visitation one hour before at Lakewood Memorial Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis.  Evelyn will be laid to rest at Lakewood Cemetery.
