Dorothy Ann Krantz (née Selander)
Age 94 of Eden Prairie, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2024 due to heart failure.
Dorothy was a loving and beloved wife of 73 years, mother of 3, grandmother of 7 and great grandmother of 6. She was the second oldest of eight siblings.
Dorothy was born to Arnold and Anna (née Maasch) Selander in her grandmother’s home in Ottertail County, MN, on January 1, 1930. Arnold and Anna later bought a nearby 160-acre farm and moved into the one room building that was intended to be a granary. Arnold, who was a farmer and a skilled carpenter, later added 5 more rooms to the granary to make it a home. Electricity was first brought to the house and farm when Dorothy was a senior in High School; indoor plumbing and a bathroom replaced the kitchen pump and outhouse several years later.
Dorothy graduated from New York Mills High School in 1948, and when she was 18, she moved to Minneapolis. She worked at Strutwear Knitting Company, where she sewed seams up the back of nylon stockings, and also met her future husband, Wally Krantz. They were married on May 6, 1950, and lived in South Minneapolis for 58 years before moving to a senior condominium in Eden Prairie.
Dorothy was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain, creating many of her own recipes. After raising her children, she worked for many years as a teacher’s assistant in the Minneapolis school district.
Dorothy was a talented clothes designer and seamstress (mostly for herself, children, grandchildren, and dolls). She sewed dozens of girl’s dresses for over-seas missions, each one beautiful and unique.
Dorothy was very involved with her church, Living Word Lutheran, helping tirelessly in the kitchen, with VBS crafts and much more.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Anna Selander; brothers, Howard, Alden, Maurice and Leroy Selander; sisters, Merle Marden and Mildred Polk; and son-in-law, Eduardo Acaso.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Walter Krantz; children, Kathleen Acaso, Loren (Linda C), and Bradley (Linda R); grandchildren, Lisa (Joe) Darby, Marcie (Ryan Wolf) Krantz, Benjamin Acaso, Jonathan (Kris Vierus) Acaso, Andrew (Patricia) Krantz, David (Alex) Krantz, James (Sarah) Krantz; great-grandchildren, Logan Darby, Lily Wolf, Charlotte Krantz, Chloe Krantz, Orion Krantz, and Neo Krantz; brother, Wayne (Donna) Selander; sister, Carol Marden; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation from 5-7pm on Mon., April 29, 2024, at Living Word Lutheran Church, 4300 Nicols Rd., Eagan.
Funeral at 11am on Tues., April 30, 2024, also at Living Word Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
