Ralph Everett Hanson, age 77, a resident of Minnetonka, MN and a longtime resident of Apple Valley, MN, peacefully passed away on September 26, 2024. Ralph was born in Hawarden, IA, January 20, 1947. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many.
Ralph is survived by his son, Brian (Ashley) Hanson; sister, Winny Hays and brothers, Frank and Carl Hanson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Karen Joanne Hanson; father, Ed Hanson; mother, Austrid (nee Hoyer); brother-in-law, Dr. John Hays and sisters-in-law, Barbara Hanson and Signe Hanson.
Ralph was an Eagle Scout with BSA. He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1969 with a B.A. in Biology. After graduating, he enlisted with the US Army in 1970 and was assigned to the ADM (Atomic Demolition Munitions) Platoon, HHC, 10th Engineering Battalion, discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1972. His professional career spanned several industries and roles, most notably Market Research in the food retail industry while earning a master’s in Business Administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
Ralph’s hobbies and interests were diverse and numerous. An avid fan of Minnesota sports, he was particularly invested in the Eastview High School Lightning, St. Olaf Oles, University of Minnesota Gophers, and the Minnesota Vikings. Ralph loved all genres of music and was a season ticket holder for the Minnesota Opera and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. He also sang in the choir at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Ralph served as president of the Ullr Ski Club through the 1970’s. He was a member of his local American Legion post 1776. He was a decades-long member of the Science Museum of Minnesota.
Above all else, Ralph truly cherished time spent with family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, patience and unwavering support for loved ones of any and all relations.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM, Sunday November 24, 2024, at the Apple Valley, American Legion, post 1776. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that considerations of donation be made to the Minnesota Children’s Hospital.
