Dear Friends and Family,
It is with immense sadness that we must share that Phelan Michael Rumley died unexpectedly on Friday morning, September 9, 2022 at the age of 29. He was doing what he loved to do – spending time with friends – when he climbed a tree to watch a beautiful storm roll in. Unlike the million other times he made a similar ascent, his descent was unsuccessful.
To know Phelan was to love him. He was impossible to keep on the ground, even as a little kid. Many of my fondest memories include him being high in the sky, climbing fences, trees, mountains. . .quite literally anything he could get his hands (and feet) on. As kids one of our favorite games was ‘don’t touch the ground tag’ and Phelan was often the winner due to his unequaled determination and fearlessness.
Phelan was preceded in death by his father, Mark, and grandparents, Charles & Patricia Rumley. He is survived by his loving wife, Morgan, and their unborn child; by his “Momma,” Julie Sheehy and his stepfather Neil Sheehy; by his siblings and their spouses, Bridget (David) Cup; Garrick (Victoria) Rumley; Audrey Sheehy; Marian (Joseph) Sorenson; Regan Sheehy; Morgan Sheehy; Brooke Sheehy; Anna Rumley; by two nephews, Johnny and Donnie, and two nieces, Blake and Lily; by his grandparents, John & Carol Ranger; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Friday, September 16, 2022, at CHRISTchurch, 12925 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd., Apple Valley. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm (noon) on Saturday, September 17, 2022, also at CHRISTchurch, with visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Phelan Rumley Memorial Fund at https://www.givesendgo.com/PhelanRumleyMemorialFund. In the wake of this unexpected tragedy, my brother Garrick and I, along with our spouses, have set up this fund to allow us all the opportunity to support Morgan through this unimaginable loss. We ask that you share this with those who knew and loved Phelan. I believe he would want us all to band together, love one another, share his memory and take care of Morgan. He was the best, and she was his favorite person.
