Thomas Oliver Muff
(Sept. 26, 1935 ? Nov. 7, 2015)
Tom passed away at the age of 80 at Southview Acres in Inver Grove Heights, MN, on Nov. 7th, 2015.
Visitation will be held at 11am & the funeral at 12:00pm noon on Thursday, Nov. 12th at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Road, Apple Valley, MN. Luncheon will immediately follow the funeral service. Interment will take place at Lebanon Cemetery in Apple Valley, MN.
Thomas was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Thomas Charles and Katharine Eleanor (Kriss). At age 3, he moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and, at age 10, they moved, planted roots, and built their home in Eveleth, Minnesota. At Eveleth High School, Tom participated on the Cross Country Ski Club and also in the Speech Club. After completing junior college in Eveleth, he was admitted to the School of Engineering at the University of Minnesota. To put himself through college, he was a ballroom dance instructor for the Arthur Murray Dance Studios ? it was here that he met his wife Nancy Lee Aaby; in 1959, they would marry. Before completing his degree, he took a job with Gould Battery, where he worked for the next 15 years. Tom then finished his career by working 25+ years at the U.S. Postal Service Bulk Mail Center as a mechanical/electrical technician.
Tom & Nancy went on to have 3 children: Michael Thomas (Miran Kwag ? Prior Lake, MN); Linda Marie (Tim Wallenfelt ? Eau Claire, WI); & Gregory David (Carla Janowski ? Bloomington, MN). And they have been blessed with 5 grandchildren: Ryan, Luke, & Samuel Wallenfelt; and Karen & Megan Muff. He is also survived by a brother James (Lois) Muff of Eldon, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas & Katharine, and his two sisters, Elaine & Barbara.
Tom had several passions in his adult life, which included Tournament Bridge, chess, ballroom dancing, travelling ? including camping in the Boundary Waters, and gardening ? especially his strawberries (he loved letting his grandkids help tend to these). He was an avid MN Vikings football fan and was very competitive at fantasy football. He was a voracious reader and loved to do the daily crossword puzzle. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior late in life, and his wife Nancy was a loyal prayer warrior for their entire marriage.
