Thomas E. Krumpelmann

Age 76 of Apple Valley, born July 7, 1938 in St Paul, MN to Herbert & Helen (Schmitz) Krumpelmann, died April 22, 2015 due to complications resulting from a series of recent strokes.
Loving husband, father, step-father and grandfather (Opa), Tom is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Joseph and Michael; step-daughters: Kristin Mott Purcell (Terrence), Stacia Mott Austin (Kevin) and Eva Luna; grandchildren: Graham, Greer, Adelia, Kerrianne, Ceilidh, Reilly, Sam, Levi and Stefan and former wife, Jeanne.
Tom lived in South Minneapolis for his first twelve years after which he and his parents moved to Lima, Ohio. Tom graduated from St. John’s High School where he was voted Homecoming King and served as class Valedictorian. After graduation and the death of his father, Tom and his mother returned to South Minneapolis where he attended the University of Minnesota, College of Science and Engineering where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. During college, Tom worked on the Great Northern’s Empire Builder as a cook. The railroad line traveled from St. Paul to Seattle. Tom’s love of the rails continued into his retirement where he was active for many years with the MN&S model railroading group. Tom amassed a collection of over 1, 000 model N scale rail cars and built an elaborate sectional module that added to the club’s working display.
Prior to his college graduation, Tom started his 36 year career with Sperry/Univac which went on to become Unisys. There Tom used his expertise as a manager in the computer memory division.
Tom enjoyed time with his family and trips to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and to the “Lake” in Northern Minnesota. A faithful steward, Tom’s faith served as a guide and a comfort throughout his life. He contributed his time, talent and resources to the church serving as Eucharistic Minister, Retrovaille leader and small group faith facilitator at Church of the Risen Savior and as a long-time parishioner and leader at St. Kevin’s parish.
A deep and heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Trinity Care Center in Farmington, MN for their compassionate, gentle and loving care. Thank you also to the team at Heartland Hospice for their assistance.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials go to Church of the Risen Savior, Sharing and Caring Hands or Maryknoll Fathers.
Visitation, 5:30 ? 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 30th at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley. Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am, Friday, May 1, with visitation one hour before at the Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 E. Co. Rd. 42, Burnsville.
