Susan Marie Canonico
January 2, 1945 - January 30, 2025
Funeral Home Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, Apple Valley
Visitation: 3:00-4:30pm on Tuesday, February 11, 2025
Canonico, Susan Marie “Sue”
Age 80, of Rosemount, MN, formerly of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Sue was born on January 2, 1945, in Everett, Washington where her parents were stationed with the US Navy during WWII. After the war, her family returned to Tucson, AZ. Sue graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1962. She attended college at the University of Arizona before moving east to River Forest, IL. During this time, she taught herself to cook and became famous for her gourmet Mexican and Italian meals. She went to work at AB Dick/National Car Rental, where she met her future husband, Bob. They were married on June 23, 1973, and had two girls, Jamie and Heather. In 1980, a job transfer brought the Canonico family to Bloomington, MN.
Sue was a stay-at-home mom for several years and frequently volunteered at the girls’ school. Sue loved cooking and hosting guests – she sure loved a party! When the girls were in high school, Sue returned to work. She enjoyed her work at M Health/Fairview Eden Center Clinic until she retired.
Sue treasured her time with her four grandchildren as their “Yaya”. During retirement, she volunteered at her grandchildren’s school, helping the Kindergarteners learn to read. The kids gravitated towards her fun personality, and she thoroughly loved working with them.
Sue will be remembered for her kind, positive, upbeat spirit, her love for family, and the amazing food she made. We couldn’t have asked for a better wife, mom, Yaya, and friend who we will miss every day.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, James and Betty Carroll; sister, Christine; and brothers, Jim and Tom. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bob; children, Jamie (Derek) Nelson and Heather (Ryan) Nosan; grandchildren, Isabelle and Grace Nosan, and Quinn and Ian Nelson; and many loving friends that were like family.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Rosemount Senior Living Memory Care Community for the wonderful care they provided during Sue’s time there.
A public visitation will be held from 3:00-4:30pm on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley. Following the visitation, the family will gather privately for a celebration of life. Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://act.alz.org/site/Donation).
