Shirley Jane Milliman, age 89 of Apple Valley, born September 17, 1935 in Minneapolis, MN to Philip A. and Jean L. Garvey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, January 25, 2025.
Shirely was the 6th of 8 children and is preceded in death by her four brothers: Philip, George, Richard, Walter and sister, Mabel Demko. Shirley will be dearly missed by her husband of 71 years, Walter; son, Geoff; daughter, Sally; grandson, Brian (Lindsey) Nicholas; brother, Jack Garvey; sister, Gloria Albaugh; nieces and nephews, Rosemary and Patrick Milliman, Val Johnson and Marla Smith and many other nieces, nephews and dear friend, Sue Patterson.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Minneapolis Roosevelt High School. She married Walter (Lou) Milliman on September 26, 1953, at Saint Richard’s Catholic Church, Richfield, MN. Shirley worked and was a stay-at-home Mom to Geoff (1955) and to Sally, (1960.). She worked for Sperry Univac and Blue Cross Blue Shield as a computer operator and was the secretary for Gem Construction, a family-owned construction company from 1973 to 1989. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her number one priority was being with her family. Shirley was a huge lover of animals. She walked dogs for neighbors, fed the squirrels, and took care of our family cats devotedly. Shirley was an avid skier, bowler and enjoyed camping with her family and sweetheart, Lou. Shirley frequently prayed the rosary and was a devoted catholic.
A viewing will be held 5pm – 7pm, Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Avenue in Apple Valley. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00AM, Friday, February 7, 2025 with a visitation one hour before at St. Thomas Becket Catholic Church, 4455 S Robert Trail in Eagan. Shirley will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
