Russell Duane Miller, Apple Valley MN, passed away on March 17, 2016 at The Lodge on Summit Oaks in Burnsville, MN. He was born on January 21, 1927 in Fergus Falls, MN to Henry C. and Ida (Will) Miller. Russell grew up on a farm in Wilken County and graduated from Campbell Public School in Campbell, MN. He served in the Armed Forces from 1945 until 1947 in the Airways Communication Service in Italy. Russell and Evelyn Schierman were married on January 27, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Russell and Evelyn had two children, Kitty Lou Cline and Russell Miller Jr. After farming in Wilken County for two years, he spent the remainder of his working career with Ottertail Power Company in Fergus Falls, MN. He held a variety of jobs including Lineman and Service Representative in towns in the OTP Area, and then became Accounting Clerk in the main office. He later became Manager of Business Computer Services there. Russell developed and implemented the Customer Information System software used throughout the OTP System and marketed nationwide. In 1981 he was one of a team of individuals from various corporations in the Midwest who were given the task of streamlining the government of North Dakota. Following retirement from Ottertail Power, he and Evelyn moved to Eagan MN. After Evelyn’s death, Russell went on numerous road trips and cruises with the highlights being his visits to the Arctic and Antarctic. Several winters were spent in Mesa AZ. His idea of traveling was to have a destination in mind with a flexible route and time schedule to reach it. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, daughter Kitty, son Russell Jr, and brother Bruce. Russell is remembered by sister Elaine (Duane) Ross of Brookings SD, sister-in-law Lucille Miller of Fergus Falls MN, granddaughter Jessica Cline, son-in-law Charles Cline, nieces Cindi, Diana, and Suzanne, special friends Bryce and Sherie Kilene, and members of Community of Joy Lutheran Church, Eagan MN. Funeral service 12 NOON, Tuesday, March 22nd at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Interment Acacia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to donor’s choice.
