Roy Wilfred Anderson, 86, of Inver Grove Heights, passed away Wednesday, July 31 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 6, 1927 in Landa, North Dakota to Alfred and Nettie (nee Linstad) Anderson. Roy attended school in Landa and college in Minot, N.D. He married Shirley Sivertson in 1948. Roy taught school in Watford City for several years and worked at a rural telephone company in Minot. He retired from Souris River Telephone as Office Manager in 1989 after over 30 years of employment.

Roy enjoyed fishing with friends and playing with his grandchildren over the years. Some of his favorite times were spent with family and friends on special occasions and working with the Minot Golden K’s and volunteering at the Norsk Hostefest festival. Roy was proud of his Norwegian heritage and will always be remembered for his Norwegian jokes. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army and is a lifelong American Legion member. Roy and Shirley belonged to Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot for over 55 years, where he served on several committees, church council, and often ushered.

In 1996, Roy and Shirley moved to Rosemount, Minnesota to be near their family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by many.

Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley, son Steve, daughters Nancy (Bob) Desch and Cindy (Larry) Boechler, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister Ora, brother Howard, several nieces and nephews, plus extended family and friends at Inver Glen Senior Living.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 10 AM Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley (952) 432-2331. Inurnment with Honors will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials may be made in honor of his wife Shirley Anderson to The Mayo Clinic for Alzheimers Research, Department of Development, Mayo Clinic, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, Minnesota 55905.
