Robert H. Knoch, age 86 of Apple Valley, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, 11/11/2018.

Survived by loving wife of 64 years, Mariel; son, James and wife Kym of Cleveland, Ohio and Venice, Florida; daughter, Julie and husband Larry Pierce of Mpls; daughter, Jennifer and husband Tim Pearson of Mpls; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Caroline Knoch; sister, Clarice Jean Ruecker and brother-in-law, Gordon Ruecker.

Graduate of South St. Paul High School and the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Relations and an MBA.

Served in the U.S. Army in Germany in 1955 and 1956 as part of the Army of Occupation following World War II.   Member, Apple Valley American Legion.

His working career spanned 35 years in the field of personnel/human resources.  He was a Personnel Assistant at Waldorf Paper Products, a consultant and later Principal of Stanton Associates, President of the DCA/Stanton Group and Managing Director of Human Resources at Piper Jaffray Companies.  At the Stanton organization for 24 years, he and his associates developed compensation studies and programs for many of the leading employers in the Upper Midwest.

Served as president and/or board member of numerous professional, academic, social service and religious organizations.

Following retirement in 1992, he worked part time for a friend in the executive search business and volunteered at various non-profit organizations.   He and Mariel also traveled extensively.

Grew up as a member of Salem Lutheran Church in West St. Paul and since 1971 he and Mariel were active members of St. James Lutheran Church in Burnsville.

Grateful for a medical profession which kept him alive far beyond a reasonable life expectancy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. James Lutheran Church, 3650 Williams Drive, Burnsville, MN 55337 or the South St. Paul Educational Foundation, 521 Marie Ave., South St. Paul, MN 55075.

Visitation Friday, 11/30/2018 from 4-7 pm at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley, MN.

Memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church in Burnsville, MN on Saturday, 12/1/2018 at 11:00 AM with 10:00 AM visitation prior.
