Weiss, Richard James age 81, of Eagan, formerly of Mpls. Born May 14, 1928, passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2010. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the 10th Infantry Band. Preceded in death by beloved wife of 52 years, Beverly; and parents, Louise and Frederick Weiss. Survived by daughter, Ann (August) Holleschau; son, Tom (Sandy); son, David (Kelly); son, Ron (Colleen) Johnson and family; grandchildren, Lisa, Vicki and Garrett Weiss; sister, Jerry (Russell) Asper; and cousins. A 1946 graduate of St. Thomas Academy, Mendota Heights. Graduated with a degree in Agronomy and Animal Husbandry from the University of MN in 1950. He was a grain inspector for the State of MN until retirement in 1985. Dick was a gentle, kindhearted, deeply religious man, with a love of music, poetry, nature, gardening, singing, playing his cornet, and time spent in the great outdoors. His children have many fond memories of fun times spent with dad on nature hikes in all seasons of the year, packing a thermos of hot chocolate and peanut butter sandwiches for those winter hikes. Bike riding, swimming, sledding, cross country skiing, horseback riding and camping out west made for a dream childhood. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial Thurs. 10 AM at the Church of St. Helena, 3201 E. 43rd St., Mpls. Visitation Wed. 5-8 PM at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 3640 23rd Ave S., and 1 hour before Mass. Interment Fort Snelling. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers
