HUGO, MARY HELEN (1917-2010)
A private funeral will take place for Mary Helen Hugo, age 93, of St. Cloud and formerly of Minneapolis. Mary passed away on October 7 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community in St. Cloud, Minnesota.Mary was born on May 22, 1917, in Minneapolis to Esther and Charles Walter. After graduating from Miller Vocational School, she pursued a short career in printing. She married Robert C. Hugo on August 6, 1938, residing in Minneapolis. Mary loved the busyness of her life as a homemaker, parent and foster parent. Her greatest enjoyments were caring for infants, tending her garden, and having coffee, ice cream and cookies with family and friends. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Mary worked for Travelers Express for several years until she retired in 1982. When diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 1999, Mary moved to St. Benedict’s Senior Community in St. Cloud.Mary is survived by her children, John (Beverly) of Clear Lake, MN, James (Joan) of Glendale, AZ, Guy (Barbara) of Richfield, MN, and Marjorie (Roger) Karjalahti of Chanhassen, MN; grandchildren, Lisa, John Jr. and Daniel, Jerry, Brian and Belinda, Terry and Todd, and Ryan and Nathan; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Jack (Lorraine) of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Paul. The family gives a special thank you to the staff of the third floor special care unit at St Benedict’s Senior Community who lovingly cared for our mother. Memorials to St. Benedict’s Senior Community are preferred. Mary’s sweet smile will be missed.
