Sending hugs to the Kallaus families. I have some great memories growing up across the street from these characters in Kalona, Iowa! John always seemed disinterested in Mary’s little friends but, secretly, I think he enjoyed our annoyances! I’ll never forget the times he took us out in his old car, one time being late for mass but, oh, the fun! We chugged sodas on the way and that proved to be a poor idea! Cherish your memories as you say goodbye and hold fast to them. You’ve all been on my mind this week and I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers in the time to come.

All my sympathy Vanya, Catherine and David and all the family. John sure worked hard to beat the cancer. And he got those three extra years. I love looking at that smile in his picture. That is the John in all our hearts. My thoughts and prayers all with you all. He will be missed by many.
