John Michael Dahl

Born June 15, 1945, to Genevieve (Watters) and Clarence Dahl in Minneapolis, MN.  His family made their home on Cedar Avenue and in the Bancroft Neighborhood in South Minneapolis. He graduated in 1963 from Central High School and later enlisted in the US Army Reserves. He worked at Hitchcock Industries, Montgomery Ward, Honeywell and was proud of his 35-year career and relationship with Midwest Finishing Inc.

John was a Certified Master Gardener and volunteered his knowledge and service by helping at gardening events and teaching topical classes. He found an identity with Twin City rosarians and taught them how to go about enjoying one’s gardens. What was his secret? John taught an entire generation of rose growers how to use liquid fertilizer for quality roses. In recent years, his garden featured 140 peonies with a shift in focus brought on by pest beetles.

John was a good son and devoted brother every day of his life. He was a helpful and kind neighbor. Annual fishing trips to the Canadian Wilderness with lifelong friends were a highlight of his life. The Lake Geneva family cottage in Alexandria was an important connection to his clan and its history. It also provided a generous dose of the wilderness for John, which he craved.

John passed from this life on March 24, 2022, at M Health Hospital in Edina. He is survived by his brother, Darrell, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his infant siblings ~ Roger and Claire. He is remembered with fond affection by his Dahl and Watters cousins.

Visitation, 5-7 PM, Thursday, March 31 at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 3640 23rd Ave. S., Minneapolis.  Funeral service, 11:00 AM, Friday, April 1, 2022 with visitation one hour before at Bethel Ev. Lutheran Church, 4120 17th Ave S, Minneapolis.  John will be laid to rest with his parents and other family at Oak Hill Cemetery.
