June 9, 1927 - May 6, 2011
Dorothy Jean “Dot or Abby” Osborne passed away Friday with her family at her side. She was born June 9, 1927 in East Lansing, Michigan to Lawrence and Marie (nee Sailer) Abbott. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Cindy (Kerry) Baubie and Wendy Woodson, grandchildren Kelsey, Jessica, Jamie, Cassie, and Cayla, 4 great-grandchildren, and sister Carol Ogilvie. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1993 and her sister Dolores. Dorothy’s first job was working at the soda fountain in Abbott’s Dairy Store, owned by her father. It sparked a lifelong interest in all things dairy. This was reflected in many of her home decorations, which she brought out during every occasion including June Dairy Month where she would display her beloved ice cream molds, cheese dishes and multiple cow-themed collectibles. Dorothy always kept up with current events and was well-known for sending relevant articles of interest or cartoons to family and friends in the many letters she wrote. She also loved to cook and was known to experiment in her kitchen, especially for the meal she would prepare almost every Sunday for her daughter Cindy’s family. Later in life, she became an ardent sports fan, especially college football and college basketball. Dorothy’s perserverance, optimism and independence inspired everyone who knew her. She will always be treasured and loved. Visitation is from 10 AM to 11 AM Wednesday, May 11, with Funeral Services to follow at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, 7510 Palomino Drive, Apple Valley, MN 55124. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to Christus Victor Lutheran Church. Henry W. Anderson, Apple Valley (952) 432-2331.
