Donald Nander, 18th of September, 1928 to 18th December, 2012, died peacefully at the age of 84. He is preceded in death by his infant son Randall. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Violet; 2 sons, Bruce (Joan) and Steve (Pat); 2 grandchildren, Jesse (Erica) and Miranda (Gabe Nelson); 2 great-grandchildren, Zech and Parvoti. For most of his life Don worked in careers that epitomized the current love of his then contemporary life. He started out as a musician playing the accordian in various Scandinavian music dance bands while in high school and early college days. After a stint in the U.S. Army working for General Douglas MacArthur in Japan in early 1949, he joined with his stepfather in building about 100 homes in and around Edina, St Louis Park and Minneapolis as Paul E Olson & Son, Inc. Then he went back to college in 1957 completing the course in aeronautical engineering that he had started before entering the Army. After graduation he worked for Douglas Aircraft Company in Santa Monica, CA for 2 years after receiving a scholarship from them, and then came back to Minnesota in 1961 to work for Honeywell Inc. for the remainder of his professional career, including a year spent in Sweden. In 1983 he retired to spend the reaminder of his life traveling by motorhome and car and enjoying his life with his darling wife of 63 years, visiting their two boys who both grew up doing the things they loved as well. Don’s memorial service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Road, Apple Valley, MN with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the church.
