December 4, 1952 - April 29, 2019
David Jack Strait
Known to most everyone as Jack, 66, of Burnsville, MN, passed away unexpectedly due to a staph infection at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park, MN, on Monday, April 29, surrounded by family and friends.
Jack was born December 4, 1952, in Tomah, WI, the son of the late Stanley and Grace (Schedler) Strait. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to La Crosse, WI. He was a 1972 graduate of Central High School in La Crosse. When the military draft was reinstated, Jack’s birthdate was the Number 1 pick to be drafted into the U. S. Army. He served in South Korea as a military policeman. Upon his return to the US, he met and married Kathryn Manske on August 19, 1978. They later divorced in 2002.
Jack loved spending time with his son, Jake. The two of them were known to get together frequently during the week for a home cooked dinner, night on the town, a Twins game or just to sit and enjoy each other’s company. He was always eager to spend what time he could with him. Jack also loved getting together with his brother, Jim for numerous car shows that they went to, road trips and the regular Thursday phone call.
Jack’s number one hobby was cars, especially Corvettes. His passion for Corvettes led to his deep involvement in Classic Corvettes of Minnesota (which he was the club’s Tech Director for two years), the Minnesota Renegades Corvette Club and Minnesota Street Rod Association. His involvement in these organizations led to him developing countless relationships that he held dearly to his heart and owning several Corvettes and other classic cars. Jack’s working career started with a successful run selling cars in Minnesota and Wisconsin. After his time in the car business he transitioned into a career of selling electrical power equipment, mainly motors and drives. Jack had a long and prosperous career with General Electric Motor Company and finished this career with Graybar in 2018 when he retired. Naturally Jack couldn’t stay retired and worked for Home Depot in Plymouth, MN, a job that brought him great joy and fulfillment.
Jack is survived by his son, Jacob Strait, of Lakeville, MN; his brother, James (Carol) Strait of Onalaska, WI, and his sister, Cynthia Anderson of Buffalo, MN. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, and girlfriend Jennifer Monson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Fred Anderson.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors of Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital for the unwavering care and treatment that they provided Jack in his final days.
