Burkhalter, Bryan A.

Age 55, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Finlayson, MN on November 16, 2020. Bryan was born to William and Marlene (Strese) Burkhalter in Farmington, MN. He attended Rosemount Public Schools, graduating from Rosemount High School. Bryan obtained his Associates of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from Inver Hills Community College.

Bryan worked several jobs in the Rosemount community, including being a Rosemount Fire Fighter. During this time, he joined the Rosemount Police Department (RPD) and went on to enjoy a fulfilling, 30 plus years with the RPD. He mentored many young and old officers and faithfully served the Rosemount community and surrounding area. He was a long-time member of the South Metro Swat Team (Dakota County-MAAG), attaining the position of commander before retiring from the Team in 2011. Upon retirement from RPD, Bryan worked for the U.S. Marshal’s Service at the St. Paul Federal Courthouse and as a Court Deputy for the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department. He considered all the men and women in the law enforcement profession to be his family. In fact, he met his future wife, Lynn Lipinski (now retired Shakopee Police Officer) in the 1980’s and when their paths crossed again, they married to form a two-officer household.

Bryan touched the lives of so many – both professionally and personally. He was the guy who would give you the shirt off his back and was often the first to offer his help. He never hesitated to school you in the Minnesota Traffic Statutes, Minnesota Commercial Vehicle Inspections, and was rarely seen without a toothpick sticking out the side of his mouth.

He was the most amazing grandpa to his granddaughters who somehow had him wrapped around their fingers….who would have guessed. They were the light of his life and made each day so very special.

Bryan is survived by his amazing wife, Lynn Lipinski; son, Steve Pesek (Kelly Harrington); daughter, Nicole (Kevin) Frederick; granddaughters, Abigail and Madelyn; step-sons, Tony (Ann) Horton, Matt (Megan) Horton and their children; mother, Marlene (Strese) Burkhalter; sister, Leslie Burkhalter (Rob Schlafmann); sister, Heidi (Scott) Koenig; niece, Keaton; nephew, Cade; father-in-law, Leonard Lipinski (Judy Beltz); sisters and brothers-in-law, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A close group of Rosemount High school friends. Bryan will also be missed by his friends at Big Pine Lake and now family in Arizona. Bryan is survived by hundreds of his brothers and sisters in blue. He will be dearly missed by his blue family. He is preceded in death by his father, William ‘Bill’ Burkhalter.
