Alrie M. Askvig “Al”

Age 82 of Apple Valley, born September 3, 1939 in Carpio, ND to Ole & Ella Askvig, passed away March 25, 2022, surrounded by his wife and family.

Al was united in marriage to Lois Olson on July 7, 1962, having met in the hospital where he was working as an orderly and she was a nurse. Al and Lois moved to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, in 1963, to run a group home for handicapped adults.  They returned to Minnesota in 1967, making their home in Apple Valley.

Al retired from Northwest Airlines after 32 years and was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1967. Al loved attending his grandchildren’s school events and activities, volunteering through the church and spending time at the cabin.  Nothing was more important to Al than Lois, who was the true love of his life.

Al is the youngest of nine children and is preceded in death by sisters, Frances (Oliver) Lee and Della (Oliver) Nelson; brothers: Ole (Norma), Jerold (Artis), Lloyd (Ora), Richard and Don Askvig and brother-in-law, Dean Byrd.  Al was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa who will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, Lois; children: Phil (Cary), Rebecca, Paul (Susan) and Jon (Colleen); grandchildren: Andrea (Wes), Karissa, Dustin, Tyler (fiancée, Maria), Dan (Lisa), Dylan, Alexei, Kitrina and Joshua; great-grandchildren: Wesley, Kaden, Lillian, Gavin, Ryder and Parker; sister, Dorothy Byrd; sisters-in-law, Darlene Askvig and Pat Theisen and many other family and friends.

Funeral service 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 29, 2022, with a visitation one hour before at Grace Lutheran Church, 7800 W. Co Rd. 42, Apple Valley.  Al will be laid to rest at Lebanon Cemetery at a later date.
